First off, I have to say I like the composition as a whole, and I have really enjoyed your past cuttie badges. They = . Now, down to buisness: The mutted navy gives him a somber/depressive atmosphere, but the orange tassles and the arm wrap keep him depressive rather than depressing (if that makes any sense >< ). The general style also gives me this impression and brings me back to when the Gorillaz were huge. I've always enjoyed that rather cartoon/grungish style, and the soft colour outside the lines makes it not too harsh, and keeps with your foggy/soft style of colouring (which I like). A few of the things I need to question. The feet are clad in tabi socks but no sandals. Is there a reason for this? Is the bg supposed to be inside? Also, the hakama dont appear to be pleated 7 times (probably more to do with space than design), and the print seems inconsistant. On some parts it looks like a celtic/medical cross and on others it looks like buttons. The right tassle also needs to hang straighter, as it looks fairly heavy and it's drifting/floating to the right more than it's visual weight implies it should. I really like the scar on the right shoulder and the scabbard; both touches give mental weight and history to the character, rather than just a cute/cool face and outfit. They make the character lived-in. Over-all a very well-thought-out character and composition, the pose is elegant and comanding, and the colours are perfectly suited to the atmosphere of the pose and facial expression. Nicely done.
